English poet and artist William Blake infused his poetry with mysticism and complex symbolism. Blake explored issues of divine love in the collection Songs of Innocence (1789), while he considered the nature of evil in Songs of Experience (1794). Blake also juxtaposed poems from the first collection with corresponding poems from the second. For example, “The Lamb” from the first collection provides a gentle counterpart to “The Tyger” (excerpt recited by an actor), from the second.
