Irish writer William Butler Yeats, winner of the 1923 Nobel Prize for literature, composed some of the most respected poetry of the 20th century. The themes of art, Irish nationalism, and occult studies all serve as central ideas in Yeats’s works. Here, an actor recites a portion of Yeats’s poem “Second Coming” (1920-1921), which prophesies an imminent Armageddon.
