During the 4th and 5th centuries, Christianity was the dominant religion of the Mediterranean world. From Ireland in the west to Ethiopia in the southeast, people throughout the world had converted to the new Christian faith. Only one century later, the extent of Christianity would change drastically due to the spread of a new religion, Islam.
