Volcanic Eruption
The 1983 eruption of Kilauea crater spilled molten, basaltic lava down the flanks of Mauna Loa volcano on Hawaii Island, Hawaii. Hawaiian volcanoes are examples of broad shield volcanoes that form from lava eruptions. Composite volcanoes form when lava eruptions alternate with violent ash eruptions.
