Harry Belafonte
American singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte sang folk songs and popularized calypso music in the 1950s, appealing to a broad range of tastes. In 1960 Belafonte became the first black person to win an Emmy Award for his television special Tonight with Belafonte.
