This country dance from southern England is a type of reel called the Cornish reel. Where the Scottish reels emphasize spinning, the Cornish “six-hand” reel focuses on a step-dance pattern indicated by a caller. Elements of this reel have been adapted into the American square-dance tradition. Danced and played in duple meter, Cornish reel melodies are often taken from a broad range of traditional and popular melodies.
