Belva Ann Lockwood
American reformer and lawyer Belva Ann Lockwood worked to advance women’s rights. The first woman to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States, Lockwood helped draft a number of laws providing some women with equal pay, better opportunities, and the right to vote in some states. Lockwood was the presidential candidate for the Equal Rights Party in 1884 and 1888.
