Diamond in the Rough

Diamond in the Rough
This photograph portrays a diamond in the rough, or more specifically, in its stone matrix. Diamonds are found in kimberlite pipes, alluvial gravel, and glacial drifts. The weight of a diamond is given in terms of carats, and one carat equals 200 milligrams. In addition to such qualities as cut, polish, presence of physical defects, and color, the carat weight of a diamond determines the gem’s value.
