Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon
George Washington inherited the Mount Vernon estate from his half brother Lawrence in 1752. Built in 1743, the estate was located on 3240 hectares (8000 acres) of land in Fairfax County, Virginia, on the Potomac River, 24 km (15 mi) south of Washington, D.C. Washington and his wife Martha lived in the two-and-one-half-story mansion after they married in 1759.
