Santa Fe Trail

Santa Fe Trail
Extending from Independence, Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico, the 1,255-km (780-mi) Santa Fe Trail was one of the longest routes in the United States before railroads traversed the country. Opened in 1821, it was used by up to 5,000 wagons a year until 1880, when a railroad reached Santa Fe.
