Northeast Culture Area
The extensive forests of the Northeast culture area provided indigenous peoples with materials for shelter, tools, and fuel, and animals of the forest—especially deer—were an important food source. Most Northeast peoples supplemented a hunting-gathering diet with fishing and farming. Villages were usually located near rivers and streams, with cultivated fields nearby.
