| The writings of Greek historian and soldier Xenophon have contributed significantly to our modern understanding of Greece and Persia in the 4th century bc. His most celebrated book, Anabasis, describes a retreat he led of 10,000 Greek soldiers through hostile Persian lands over a five-month period. Many of the soldiers survived the grueling journey, a feat attributed largely to Xenophon’s resourcefulness. | ||||||
