Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman
Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman won the 1930 Nobel Prize in physics. He discovered that monochromatic light scatters into different frequencies when it passes through a transparent substance, a phenomenon now called the Raman effect.
