Irish playwright Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory was a founding member of what became the Abbey Theatre in Dublin in 1899, where she worked with Irish poet and playwright William Butler Yeats. She wrote several short plays about Irish life, including Spreading the News (1904), The Rising of the Moon (1907), and MacDonough’s Wife (1913).
