Until the coup of 1966, Buganda (today part of Uganda) was a kingdom ruled by a leader known as the kabaka. The court of the kabaka included a variety of sophisticated musical ensembles. In this example, Evalisto Muyinda, the last surviving kabaka court musician, sings a song praising the lizard and accompanies himself on the ennanga, an eight-stringed harp. The ennanga was usually played for the kabaka while he was eating or drinking.
