Alice Walker
In her stories, poems, and novels, American writer Alice Walker portrays the experiences of black women. Works such as In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens: Womanist Prose (1983) and Living by the Word (1988) made her a major figure in the feminist movement. Walker’s novel The Color Purple (1982) won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
