Fin d’arabesque

Fin d’arabesque
The ballet provided the inspiration for many paintings by French artist Edgar Degas, including Fin d’arabesque (1877, Musée d’Orsay, Paris, France). Although Degas is often classified with the impressionists for his ability to capture a momentary pose, he set himself apart from impressionism by the subjects he chose for his paintings. Instead of landscapes, Degas chose to paint theater and ballet performances, races, and café life, subjects that allowed him to capture movement in his off-center and oddly cropped compositions.
