“Lassus Trombone” is a ragtime piece composed by James Henry Fillmore. A composer, arranger, bandleader, and publisher, Fillmore was most famous for his marches and ragtime compositions. He was a trombonist, as well, and he wrote a number of pieces that feature the trombone’s ability to perform exaggerated smears and slurs. The most famous of these works is “Lassus Trombone,” performed here by Stuart Dempster, a foremost contemporary trombone player.
