| One of baseball’s greatest pitchers, Satchel Paige endeared himself to fans with his colorful personality and impressive assortment of pitches. He played in the Negro Leagues for most of his lengthy career until he joined the major league Cleveland Indians in 1948, when he was in his 40s. Paige helped the team win that year’s pennant race and World Series. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. |
