Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s time in Salzburg afforded him the opportunity to compose a number of concertos and sonatas, many of which were composed for garden parties, weddings, birthdays, or home concerts for friends and patrons. Among the most notable of these compositions is a series of five violin concertos composed during 1775, of which the Violin Concerto in G Major is the most popular. It is a classic blending of Mozart’s Italian-influenced simplicity and courtly charm and a profoundly German awareness of counterpoint and polyphony.
