Much of the work that Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart produced during the last ten years of his life was probably his best recognized. Five months before his death, Mozart received a commission for the composition of a requiem mass (mass for the dead) for Count Franz Walsegg zu Stuppach, who wanted to commemorate the death of his wife. The mass was completed after Mozart’s death by composer Josef Eybler and Mozart’s pupil Franz Xavier Süssmayr.
