Hermes and Argus
According to Greek mythology, Zeus ordered his messenger, Hermes, to slay Argus. In this painting by Ubaldo Gandolfi, Hermes has lulled Argus to sleep prior to beheading him. This work belongs to the North Carolina Museum of Art.
