| The memorial shown here commemorates the 1942 German destruction of the village of Lidice, in what was then western Czechoslovakia, during World War II. The Germans believed village residents were involved in the assassination of a Nazi leader and murdered all the village men and deported the women and children to concentration camps. | ||||||
