During his short career, which ended with a fatal car accident in 1956, American trumpeter Clifford Brown exerted a profound influence on jazz. One of the most remarkable trumpeters of the 1950s, he was noted for his rich tone, his virtuosity, his use of the trumpet’s entire range, and especially for his extraordinary improvisational abilities. Here, he plays “De-Dah,” in a 1953 recording.
