Oliver Wendell Holmes
Initially known in the Boston area for his cultured, witty verse, American physician and writer Oliver Wendell Holmes gained wider popularity with the publication of his essays in 1858. His son, also named Oliver Wendell Holmes, became an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1902.
