Horace Greeley
In 1841 American journalist Horace Greeley founded the New York Tribune, a successful Whig newspaper. Greeley, an advocate of civil rights, including suffrage for black Americans and amnesty for all members of the Confederacy after the American Civil War (1861-1865), remained the editor of the Tribune for more than 30 years.
