Audubon Painting of Loons
James Audubon dedicated himself to drawing and studying American birds at the age of 18. His definitive collection of illustrations, The Birds of America, was published in 1838. Working with other naturalists, he produced several more volumes of fine illustrations combined with descriptions of behavior and characteristics of American birds.
