Harry Andrew Blackmun
Harry Blackmun was appointed to the United States Supreme Court by President Richard M. Nixon in 1970. Initially a conservative, Blackmun’s views became more liberal over time. He wrote the majority opinion in the 1973 landmark case Roe v. Wade which in effect legalized abortion. Blackmun retired in 1994.
