In 1989 Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North was convicted for his role in the Iran-Contra Affair, a political scandal that occurred during United States President Ronald Reagan’s administration. Reagan was blamed for failing to control his staff, but an independent prosecutor found no evidence he had broken the law. North’s conviction was later overturned.
