Dedicating the Statue of Liberty
On October 28, 1886, United States president Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty, then called Liberty Enlightening the World, in a ceremony in New York City, New York. The French government gave the statue to the United States to commemorate a century of U.S. independence.
