Missourians Invade Kansas
United States President Franklin Pierce supported the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854. After its passage, Missourians, who favored the addition of another slave state to the Union, streamed into Kansas to pack the ballot boxes. Proslavery forces won, and Kansas elected a proslavery legislature.
