Leo I and Attila

Leo I and Attila
When Attila the Hun and his armies threatened to sack Rome in the 5th century, Pope Leo I persuaded him to accept a sum of money instead. In this fresco, Leo I Repulsing Attila (1512-1514, Vatican), Italian Renaissance painter Raphael depicts Attila being driven off by Saint Peter and Saint Paul wielding swords.
