Gerry Adams
Irish political leader Gerry Adams was interned during the 1970s for his involvement in the Irish Republican Army (IRA). In 1978 he was elected vice president of Sinn Fein, the political arm of the IRA, and he later became president. Adams played a key role in the peace negotiations with Britain that began in the early 1990s.
