Vladimir Horowitz
Concert pianist Vladimir Horowitz, born in Kyiv, Ukraine, gained fame in the 1920s with his recital tours in Russia. He first performed in London and New York City in 1928, where he was enthusiastically received, and in 1939 he moved to the United States. Known for his finger speed, control of musical subtleties, and power, Horowitz specialized in the challenging music of Hungarian-born composer Franz Liszt and Russian composers Sergey Rachmaninoff and Aleksandr Scriabin.
