| American director Oliver Stone achieved wide recognition for his work on two films released in 1986: Platoon, which won Academy Awards for best picture and best director, and Salvador. Platoon was the first installment of Stone’s Vietnam War trilogy. Born on the Fourth of July (1989), the second part, garnered Stone an Academy Award for best director. He completed the trilogy with Heaven and Earth (1993). | ||||||
