Nuuk, Greenland
Although their Inuit ancestors lived in houses made of rocks and earth, the people of Greenland today live in brightly colored wooden houses and apartment buildings like the ones pictured here. The nomadic lifestyle of the Inuit has similarly given way to permanent fishing settlements, where most Greenlanders now live. This photograph was taken in Nuuk, the largest of these settlements and the capital and main port of Greenland.
