San Hunting Tools
The San, members of a traditional hunter-gatherer society, live throughout much of the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. San women ensure that the group has enough wild plants and fruits to supplement their diet. San men use light bows with poisoned arrows to hunt animals. Bags such as the one shown here are made from the skins of gazelles, deer, or other such animals. The skin from the animal’s legs form the straps.
