Scientific Balloon
Scientists prepare to launch an expandable weather balloon in Antarctica to gather information about upper level wind speeds and directions. As the balloon, which is filled with a light gas such as helium, rises upward, the gas expands and enlarges the balloon. At some point, the balloon bursts and a parachute brings the weather instruments back down to the earth.
