Elementary Particle Tracks
These tracks were formed by elementary particles in a bubble chamber at the CERN facility located outside of Geneva, Switzerland. By examining these tracks, physicists can determine certain properties of particles that traveled through the bubble chamber. For example, a particle's charge can be determined by noting the type of path the particle followed. The bubble chamber is placed within a magnetic field, which causes a positively charged particle's track to curve in one direction, and a negatively charged particle's track to curve the opposite way; neutral particles, unaffected by the magnetic field, move in a straight line.
