Bobby Fischer

Bobby Fischer
Bobby Fischer left high school in 1958 to become the first Western player to make a living solely from playing chess. He beat Boris Spassky in 1972 to capture the world chess championship, employing an aggressive, attacking style of play. Fischer’s victory represented a first for an American; he held the title until 1975 when the International Chess Federation stripped him of his title in a dispute.
