William II of England

William II of England
During the late 11th century, King William II of England invaded Normandy and overtook the lands of his brother, Robert II, the duke of Normandy. Having won land concessions from his brother, William turned his attention toward conquering parts of Scotland. In 1092 he seized the Scottish city of Carlisle, along with parts of the Cumberland and Westmoreland regions.
