J. D. Salinger
J. D. Salinger established his literary reputation with the novel The Catcher in the Rye (1951). The book’s protagonist, Holden Caulfield, soon became a cultural prototype of adolescent rebellion. In his 1963 work Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction, Salinger further explored problems of youth.
