Samuel Johnson

Samuel Johnson
English lexicographer and writer Samuel Johnson ranked as one of the most important literary figures of the 18th century. Nicknamed both Dictionary Johnson and the Great Cham of Literature (Cham is an archaic word meaning Khan), Johnson compiled and wrote the Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1755. Johnson later served as the subject of one of the greatest biographies ever written, James Boswell’s Life of Samuel Johnson (1791).
