Chester Arthur
Chester Arthur was the 21st president of the United States. Arthur served as vice president under President James A. Garfield, until Garfield was assassinated in July 1881. Arthur became president, rising above the political corruption of the time to run an honest administration. He, however, was not nominated to run for a second term in 1884 and retired from public life.
