| Although Vermont is one of the smaller states in the country, its countryside is among the most diverse. Dairy farms and fruit orchards are common in the state’s Champlain Valley in the northwest, and granite mountains rise majestically in the White Mountain region in the northeast. The New England Upland consists of productive plains along the Connecticut River. This photograph, taken near Peacham, typifies the deciduous autumn beauty of the Upland region. | ||||||
