Battle of Monmouth

Battle of Monmouth
During the Battle of Monmouth, fought in New Jersey in 1778, a woman known as Molly Pitcher became a hero for helping American soldiers, as shown in this drawing. Pitcher was named for the many pitchers of water she carried out to the troops on the battlefield. Some historians write that at one point she stood in for her husband when he was overcome by heat.
