State Capitol at Montgomery
Montgomery succeeded Saint Stephens, Huntsville, Cahawba (Cahaba), and Tuscaloosa as capital of Alabama in 1846. Ten years after its completion in 1851, the State Capitol served as the first Confederate capitol as well as the site of the inauguration of Jefferson Davis as the provisional president of the Confederate States of America.
