| Mauna Kea is the highest volcano in Hawaii with an elevation of 4,205 m (13,796 ft). However, when the inactive volcano is measured from its base on the ocean floor, it has a height of 9,800 m (32,000 ft). That means if the base of Mauna Kea was at sea level, the mountain would be taller than Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world at 8,850 m (29,035 ft). |
