| From the time of his earliest conquest of China in 1208 until his death in 1227, Genghis Khan campaigned to extend his Mongol Empire. Following the capture of the last Chinese stronghold, Genghis Khan's army continued strategic invasions across Asia, with the fall of the Korean Peninsula to the Mongols in 1218. In 1219 the invasions moved eastward, bringing the cities of Samarqand, Bukhara, and Mary and the surrounding countryside under Mongol control. By 1225 the Mongol Empire had expanded into Russia. When Genghis Khan died in 1227, the Mongol Empire was divided among his four sons. |
