With his collection of stories Il Decamerone (The Decameron), Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio created the novella form. This portrait of Boccaccio is one of a series of frescoes of illustrious men and women created by Renaissance painter Andrea del Castagno about 1450. The work now hangs in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
